dusk flight out in Ufton Nervet/Mortimer direction from old pit workings, best seen from Kennet bank path; as yesterday, steady stream in groups of 4s-12s. Verified by Sarah Priest.

2 nights ago I counted 33. I went tonight to verify whether this was a one off or not, and was delighted to find 96. It was virtually dark when they left the old pit workings behind the currently worked pit, and lasted about 15 minutes. They all flew off in the Ufton Nervet/ Mortimer direction in groups of 8-12. In flight they remind me of Puffins with their very fast wingbeats, pale underneath and darrk on top with a slither of terminal white on the speculum. Male flight call is a monosyllabic whistle, and the females sound like a softer version of female Tufty.
