Access to QMR

19 May 2009 | Marek Walford

Access

Access to QMR is only available to BOC permit holders. The Thames Water pink permits no longer grant access to any part of the reservoir. Holders of a BOC permit are permitted to walk the whole of the rim pathway from dawn to an hour after sunset, seven days a week. Access is via the right-hand gate at the main entrance, which must be locked after entry and exit. Permit holders will be given the combination number which also provides access to the BOC hut (located just inside the gates) and the perimeter gates. Please sign in and record any sightings in the log book provided in the hut. Cars should be parked in the parking areas on either side of the sailing club building.

Facilities

Datchet Sailing Club have said that birders may use its toilet facilities and its cafe, which is open Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Directions

From M4 junction 5 take the third exit off the roundabout onto the A4. After about 200m at the traffic lights bear right towards Colnbrook. Follow the road and after about 350m the entrance to the sailing club is on the right.

Getting a permit

You must be a BOC member to get a QMR permit. Permit application forms are available from the BOC secretary. Members should complete and sign the application form and bring it, together with a photo ID and seperate proof of address to any BOC indoor meeting. There is no charge for the permit.
