Common Gull With Pale Iris
Marek Walford | 22 September 2003
On 17th September 2003 I made a lunchtime visit to Moor Green Lakes to check the new workings for waders. I walked down to the River and looked back across the workings. An adult Common Gull was present but I didn't give it a second look. As I walked back towards the car park I met Mike McCarthy who had obviously paid more attention to the gull than me as he had noticed that it had a pale iris.
I had another look and it did indeed have a pale iris. The legs were also very yellow. In all other respects it looked just like an adult Common Gull. The bird was also present on the 18th when Mike took the following photos.
