Pale bird in Tern scrape and walked to within 60 yards of Bittern Hide and remained there until pitch black. I am dropping fish around the edge of the scrape and reeds tomorrow before light as this bird may be struggling to find food.

Appeared high in reeds in dying light, viewed across lake (WNW) from fishing swim nearest to wooden foot bridge between WSL & BSL. The light was already too poor to say if it was the Lavell's bird, but did look pretty dark.

Didn't find it the 1st time, which PBT describes, when GSE called 'bittern'. It later came out of the reeds on right of lake, giving several of us a great view for a minute or two. Flew to reedbed on main island.

The *second* I closed the hide shutters, another birder called the Bittern as flying across the lake. Landed in the right-hand reedbed 30m beyond the bund - a bright gingery bird (in dull light) with brownish malar and neck streaking.

Minimum of 3, 1 aready in reeds on arrival, 2nd flew in 16:30, 3rd in from BSL direction 16:35. But two then left and landed in trees above Loddon. Probably a 4th flew in low from East 16:40. Advise viewing only from NE fishing swim (with bench next to it).

All arrived quite late, 1 bird flew in from the North from along the Loddon, but then circled south before landing in top of tree on other side of Loddon, at that moment the 2nd came in from North and flew to North East end of reeds. Possible third bird flew in, again from North at 17:00.
