21:00
2nd year male & fem. Sarah Priest found 2nd year male perched at distance and low light. However, we could clearly see barred retrices, rufous trousers and undertail coverts, dove grey breast/flank, darker grey head & back, and very dark lores indicating transitional MALE. Keith Lugg also enjoyed the view through the telescope. The male took off and was immediately joined by a second bird flying low over the pit margins feeding on the wing. The second bird was lighter altogether, with a very pale buff forehead & crown, also showing barred retrices and some barring on the flight feathers indicating 2nd year [transitional] FEMALE. Both birds were lost while feeding on the wing in the mirky dusk light.
