Count refers to the 2 resident pairs. One pair kept all 10 chicks for 3 days, then lost all 10 in the past 24 hours or so. One factor in this is probably the surge of park visitors today (Sunday). Both yesterday and today, the family were being repeatedly scared into the water by uncontrolled dogs; the chicks scattered and were then vulnerable to predation by Carrion Crows and Magpies. J Bishop and K Wanelik saw the last chick taken by a Brown Rat around 16:10. We then saw the parents mating at 16:23 (nightfall) - perhaps a stress response rather than an immediate initiation of a replacement clutch.

Bizarre situation with an Egyptian Goose in the dark on the road in front of my house, holding up the traffic but not wanting to fly off. I eventually coralled it into my garden. It appeared to not be injured when later caught and was released at Horseshoe Lake.
