Escape
ad. Showing again in field by farm buildings. Blue colour ringed GB4A. Information received from the White Stork Project says that - GB4A is a male, originally from Poland, he came to the UK with a cohort of rehabilitated storks late 2018 who were established at our satellite site in East Sussex. He was released in April this year and has been seen around Sussex and Kent since then. He appears to have spent some time in the Midgham/West Berkshire area over the last few weeks.

Negative news
I checked Cockmarsh but no sign. Reported by a non-birder as a "Crane" flying over the river from Cockmarsh about 4:30. Earlier a very poor photo of what looked to be a White Stork was on Bourne End Facebook.

Presumably the same 2 that looked to be heading off ENE over Reading earlier returned at 20:03 . One landed in the top of a Scots Pine at the back of the marsh. The other landed near the top of 5th Pylon. Both still there at 21:40 and are presumably roosting.

Notes: Just as we were finishing our evening meal in the garden at 18:30 the bird appeared from the north flying south with a heron in tow. Both birds flew south directly over the local gardens and began circling. The stork disappeared from view behind some tall trees for a few minutes but eventually reappeared flying almost due east. Size and structure: Huge, dwarfing the heron, with very long wings, long neck held straight out with a long pointed dagger bill, relatively short tail and long trailing legs and feet. The wings were held out at right angles to the body, with a proportionately long 'hand'. Flight action was easy with much gliding on stiff more or less flat wings interspersed with languid wing beats. As the sky was cloudless with bright sunshine, the bird was mostly backlit so little colour noted. Bill just looked a medium indeterminate colour as did the legs. However it was obvious that it had black flight feathers that clearly contrasted with the clean white upper wing and underwing coverts, neck, head and tail. Was too exciting to note much else! . Per Mike Keel (MTK). Large heron type bird seen well. Initially seen circling with gulls then headed off west. Outstretched neck and red bill noted along with similar coloured legs extending well beyond tail. White forewing and black rear wing and wing tips also noted. Seen in excellent light through binoculars.
