Last week thieves cut the lock chain, broke into the Sailing Club and stole the club's safe. Thames Water have sealed the gate until a new entry system can be installed. Until that happens access is only permitted during sailing club hours (10am-6pm, closed Monday).
Apparently Thames Water plan to install a card operated system (and maybe number plate recognition). There's no date for when this might happen but I suspect it will be many, many months!
